Greetings SGA members,
I hope this finds everyone in good health and good cheer, and enjoying the brisk sunny days of winter. For our markets, 2011 has been an extraordinary year (of record revenues!) and I hope each of you found fun and profit through the market we all share.
Although this isn't the offical announcement about our January meeting (which will be 1/29/12 at the MLK Center on Sheridan St. in Redding, from 1-5), it's not too early to start thinking about it! Specifically, if you would like to run for the Board next year, know that we'll be electing next year's Board at our Jan. meeting.
As far as I'm aware, all current board members will be seeking/tolerating re-election next year, but fresh blood is always a good thing and anyone can run for any position any year. Board members receive no compensation, but they do get to pick their Saturday market spaces before anyone else (After a full year of service) and they don't pay the annual $30 membership fee. Board membership does come with a commitment of about 4-8 meetings per year (usually 3-4 hours per meeting), and an hour or two (or more) per week doing stuff on behalf of the SGA.
Board members enjoy the camaraderie and satisfaction of helping to put on a farmers' market. I like to think of our markets as a colorful, magical circus, with better food, and it's kind of awesome that the SGA has been consistently making this circus happen every year since 1978.... before some of our current farmers were even born!
If you think you'd like to be on the Board, you have the option to make yourself known beforehand and submit a "candidate statement" (maybe with photo?) to help your fellow members (some of whom might not know you) understand why you'd be a great board member. I will send this out along with the official announcement if I receive it before Jan.7th.
We also always accept nominations from the floor, the day of the election.
